VALETRA TRAVEL GUIDE · RTS LINK · BUKIT CHAGAR
The Johor Bahru–Singapore RTS Link is planned to connect Woodlands North with Bukit Chagar. For visitors, the next question is how to reach the final hotel, attraction or business address after arriving in Johor Bahru.
This pre-opening guide keeps the onward-travel focus while adding the latest service-target announcement checked on 26 October 2026. For travel before passenger service begins, plan around an operating transport option.
RTS Link Update: February 2027 Service Target
Last checked: 26 October 2026. The RTS Link remains a pre-opening project. In a joint announcement dated 2 October 2026, Malaysia’s Ministry of Transport and Singapore’s Land Transport Authority reported that passenger service is now expected to begin in February 2027.
The revised target remains subject to independent safety certification and final regulatory approvals. It is a target month, not a guaranteed first day of service.
Read the official MOT–LTA announcement. For a journey before passenger service begins, use a currently operating transport option.
This update does not establish a fare, ticket-sales channel, operating timetable or station pickup point. Check official passenger information for the details relevant to your actual travel date.
What the RTS Link Is Designed to Do
The MRT Corp RTS Link project page describes an approximately 4 km rail connection between Woodlands North in Singapore and Bukit Chagar in Johor Bahru. It connects two stations; your journey to a hotel, attraction or business address may need another leg.
The planned arrangement includes co-located border facilities at departure so passengers can complete both countries’ formalities before taking the train. Follow the official passenger and immigration procedures released for service commencement.
For trip planning, separate the railway itself from travel to the departure station and from the arrival station to your final destination.
Bukit Chagar Is the Starting Point for Your Johor Journey
Before choosing rail for a future visit, identify the full route from your Singapore starting address to Woodlands North and from Bukit Chagar to your Johor destination. The station name alone is not a hotel drop-off plan.
For a central JB stay, check whether the actual exit, pedestrian route, luggage and mobility needs make walking practical. For a destination farther away, assess a separate local connection and allow time to locate the confirmed pickup point.
Useful booking detail: provide the full hotel or attraction address, passenger count, all bags and the intended arrival time. Ask the provider to confirm the exact pickup point rather than assuming a vehicle can wait at any station exit.
Which Visitors May Need an Onward Transfer?
| Trip | What to plan | Transport consideration |
|---|---|---|
| Central JB hotel | Exact address, actual station exit, luggage and walking needs | Assess walking access or a short local connection |
| LEGOLAND family day | Children, stroller, park admission time and return plan | Plan a separate road journey to the attraction |
| Shopping or several stops | Every destination, bags and group meeting point | Compare separate local rides with a suitable itinerary quotation |
| Airport or intercity connection | Flight or reporting deadline and complete luggage load | Allow time for each connection rather than only the train ride |
For attraction planning, see our LEGOLAND Malaysia visitor guide. Travellers staying overnight can also use the Johor Bahru hotel transfer guide to prepare their next pickup.
Compare the Whole Journey, Not Only the Border Crossing
Once operating, RTS may suit visitors whose starting point and destination work well with the two-station route. A family heading beyond central JB should compare the number of connections, bag handling and total trip plan, as well as the rail journey.
A pre-arranged road transfer may be useful when the group needs collection from an agreed address, more luggage space or a destination away from the rail stations. Availability and the suitable vehicle arrangement still depend on the route being requested.
For paid cross-border transport, check the operator, relevant permits, vehicle arrangement and insurance information. Our guide to licensed and insured private transport explains the checks to discuss before payment.
The planned rail clearance process is separate from road checkpoint procedures. For a road journey now, read the Johor Bahru–Singapore checkpoint guide and follow the instructions applicable to the confirmed vehicle arrangement.
Plan for the Bags You Actually Carry
Count all suitcases, cabin bags, strollers and mobility equipment before comparing rail with road transport. Consider who will handle each item at station access, border formalities, boarding and the onward connection.
For a separately booked vehicle within Johor, send passenger numbers and bag sizes together. Mention child seats, bulky items and boarding needs before quotation so the team can assess suitability. Special equipment must be confirmed rather than assumed.
For a return journey, include any extra shopping or baggage that may be added during the day. The return load may differ from the group’s arrival load.
Leave a Buffer for Every Connection
MRT Corp currently publishes an estimated six-minute train journey between the stations. That is a rail-journey estimate, not the time from a Singapore home or hotel to a Johor destination.
Allow separately for reaching Woodlands North, departure procedures, boarding, leaving Bukit Chagar and the onward trip. Do the same in reverse for the return journey. Consult MRT Corp’s project information and official passenger updates for the relevant operating details.
A hotel check-in, attraction admission, meeting or flight should not depend on the shortest possible connection. Build in a reasonable buffer for the complete itinerary and avoid treating a map estimate as a guaranteed arrival time.
Check Confirmed Details Before You Book
| Item | Current planning position | Action for travellers |
|---|---|---|
| Service commencement | February 2027 target, subject to safety certification and final approvals | Recheck the official announcement before committing to a rail itinerary |
| Route | Woodlands North ↔ Bukit Chagar | Plan access and onward travel separately |
| Fare, tickets and train timetable | Not established by the service-target announcement | Use official passenger information for the travel date |
| Station exits and road pickup | No dedicated Valetra station pickup promised here | Confirm the permitted, practical meeting point before booking |
| Travel before RTS begins | Use an operating service for the actual date | Check bus, existing rail-shuttle or eligible road availability |

How to Arrange a Separate Valetra Journey
For travel now, enter the actual pickup address, destination, date, time, passengers and bags on the Valetra main page. For a proposed station connection after opening, ask the team to assess availability and the exact meeting point before booking.
Standard booking: book at least 12 hours before pickup. You can arrange future dates ahead, subject to the service being available for the requested journey.
Short-notice requests: during 8:00 AM–9:00 PM Malaysia time, requests with at least 2 hours before pickup may enter pre-approval. Operations checks vehicle and driver availability and must approve before payment becomes available. Successful payment confirms the booking. Outside these hours, pre-approval is unavailable and the standard 12-hour requirement applies.
Booking Confirmation is emailed after successful payment. Driver and vehicle details follow separately in the Departure Slip, normally no later than 12 hours before travel. Approved urgent bookings within 12 hours are coordinated within the available lead time.
The route-based fare applies to the confirmed journey. Customer-requested changes and approved extras may require a revised quotation or additional payment. A return journey is arranged as two bookings with separate payment links.
